Outfit of the Week: Rockin' the Seventies (LOL)

Here is my first new outfit. My mom got me the dress at a thrift shop. It is obscenely hot for December here in Mississippi, so I don't really need the jacket, but it's cute with the dress, so I took one pic with it and one without it.

Where it came from
Dress: 1970's vintage
Bag: Coach, vintage
Jacket: Vivienne Tam
Shoes: Clark's

A Ressurection

Milton did, in fact, eat this blog. But he threw it up and now I'm going to try to salvage it.

Since I last posted, a lot has happened. The most important thing is that I'm now a college graduate, but my education is only beginning. I have applied to about ten graduate programs in English and I hope at least one will take me. I will likely be moving far away from Mississippi in the next year, and that is exciting.

Over the past year and some change, my style and my academic interests have changed. I no longer think I want to be a Miltonist. Instead, I have opted to study postcolonial literature and critical theory in graduate school. Most of my work centers around what happens when mutually opposed entities interact and blend, as well as the effects of crossing boundaries. (Hmm... Maybe I can apply these ideas to my fashion.) On my style: It has gotten edgier, if one can be edgy in a skirt.* I was inspired by a professor I had last semester who dressed really elegantly, in a effortless and youthful way. She also had really cool shoes. This professor inspired me to be less conforming and more confident in the way I dress (and the way I study and write, too), so there will be a little less sweet and ultra-feminine Betty Draper-esque style and a little more of the streets of New York when I feel like being polished, and London when I don't.**

I hope to share fashion, nerdy stuff, and nerdy fashion stuff a couple times a week. If you are along for the ride, welcome.

*I have nothing personally against pants except that they generally don't fit me very well.
**There is a great article in the recent best dressed issue of Vogue that has a great article about one woman's transition from London fashion to New York fashion. I suggest you check it out.
